After setting the foundation, analyzing data, developing a deeper understanding of the problem, engaging in self-reflection, and exploring programmatic patterns, our Freshman Transition Team has determined a direction. I am including the template for our action rearch.

  1. I am a high school teacher in San Antonio and I think that organizational skills are a huge contributor to a students success or lack thereof. It is very frustrating to hand out an assignment and have a student just stuff it into their backpack along with a bunch of other crumpled pieces of paper from other classes. I will be very interested to see how successful your class is.

  2. Great goal! I am interested in seeing the results of your research. Are you going to expand the College Readiness and Study Skills class to all freshman or maily target certain freshman?

  3. I love the idea of teaching freshmen organization. As the freshman technology instructor at my school, I stress the same things your Readiness course does. You have a great topic for your action research, but I think that it will take more than evaluating grades to assess the organization of the students from that class. There are so many variables that can affect a change in grades, including issues at home, or with a particular teacher or classmate. I think teacher observation of the students in their rooms can be helpful. (We've all seen backpacks with papers hanging out of them.) I would recommend including such observations, or student surveys in your research as a means of more accurately measuring the success of the program.
